02 / What it treats

12 conditions —
one focused tool.

Focused shockwave is most effective on chronic, insertional tendinopathies — the long-standing pain that hasn't responded to rest, stretching, or generic PT.

01
Plantar Fasciitis
Stubborn heel pain, especially the first steps out of bed.
02
Tennis Elbow
Lateral epicondylitis — pain gripping, lifting, shaking hands.
03
Golfer's Elbow
Medial epicondylitis — inside-elbow pain from repetitive load.
04
Achilles Tendinopathy
Mid-portion or insertional — the runner's nemesis.
05
Patellar Tendinitis
"Jumper's knee" — pain at the bottom of the kneecap.
06
Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy
Chronic shoulder pain — reaching, lifting, sleeping on it.
07
Trochanteric Bursitis
Lateral hip pain when walking, climbing stairs, or side-sleeping.
08
Hamstring Tendinopathy
Deep pain at the sit-bone — chronic, slow to heal.
09
Shin Splints
Medial tibial stress syndrome that won't quit.
10
Calcific Tendinitis
Calcium deposits in the rotator cuff — often immediate relief.
11
Trigger Points & Myofascial Pain
Tight bands of muscle — neck, traps, glutes.

Note: shockwave is contraindicated for active malignancy, blood clotting disorders, pregnancy, and a few other conditions. Your Initial Evaluation screens for safety before we ever pull the trigger.

03 / How it works

Acoustic pulses that restart
your body's healing.

Chronic tendinopathy is a healing problem, not just a pain problem. Shockwave forces the healing process to begin again — at the cellular level.

01

Mechanical Disruption

Focused acoustic pulses penetrate 4–6 cm into tissue and create microscopic cavitation bubbles. They mechanically break up calcific deposits and disorganized scar tissue — exactly where the pain lives.

~ 2,000 pulses per session
02

Neovascularization

The same pulses trigger your body to grow new blood vessels into the injured tendon — which is exactly what chronic tendon pain lacks. More blood = the nutrients and oxygen tissue needs to actually heal.

Strength & Reload

This is where most clinics stop — and where chronic pain comes back. We pair every shockwave session with manual therapy and a progressive loading program so the tendon rebuilds stronger, not just quieter.

The Elevate difference
"Focused shockwave is one of the most evidence-supported tools we have for chronic insertional tendinopathies — and it's still underused in most insurance clinics."
Dr. Natalie Gonzalez · DPT · Clinic Director
70–88%
Pain reduction in chronic plantar fasciitis at 3 mo (multiple RCTs)
65–91%
Success rate in calcific rotator cuff tendinitis

Outcomes drawn from peer-reviewed meta-analyses (e.g., Lou et al. 2017, Wu et al. 2018, Speed 2014). Individual results vary — recovery is a process, not a promise.

04 / What to expect

No surprises.
Just the plan.

Most patients are nervous about shockwave because nobody explains it. Here is exactly what your treatment looks like, week by week.

Initial Evaluation

A full evaluation with one of our doctors. We confirm shockwave is the right tool for your specific tendon, screen for contraindications, and build your plan.

First Treatment

15-min focused shockwave to the exact tissue. Feels like a strong tapping or thudding — uncomfortable, never sharp. Followed by manual therapy and your loading program.

~ 45 min total
Weeks 2–4

Mid-Treatment

One shockwave session per week. Most patients notice meaningful pain reduction by session 3. Some feel mild soreness the next day — that's the healing response, not damage.

3–5 sessions typical
Outcome

Return to load

Pain quieter, tendon stronger. We progress your strength program until you're back to your sport, your work, or simply walking pain-free — and we stay in your corner after.

3 mo + follow-up checks
During the session
  • A cool gel is applied to the area
  • The handpiece delivers ~2,000 pulses
  • Intensity is adjusted to your tolerance
  • You can talk, breathe, drive after
After the session
  • Mild soreness for 24–48 hrs is normal
  • No NSAIDs (they blunt the healing response)
  • Keep moving — gentle activity is encouraged
  • Hydrate. Skip ice the day of.
Honest expectations
  • Most see relief by session 3 of 5
  • Some need 6 sessions for stubborn cases
  • Full tissue healing continues 3 mo after
  • Strength work is non-negotiable
05 / Why us

Shockwave isn't magic.
It's a tool. We use it like one.

Most Doral clinics offering shockwave either bury it as an add-on or sell it as a standalone cure. Both miss the point. Here is how we actually use it.

Licensed therapist, every session

Your shockwave is delivered by a licensed therapist trained directly under our DPT — never an aide. The protocol itself is designed by a doctor so we hit the exact pathology and avoid the structures we shouldn't.

Paired with manual + strength

Shockwave restarts the healing. Loading completes it. Every visit blends shockwave, manual therapy, and a strength progression specific to your sport or goals.

Honest about the fit

If shockwave isn't the right tool for you, we'll say so on day one — and recommend what is. We won't sell you a package that doesn't fit your pathology.

06 / Investment

Transparent
from the start.

Shockwave isn't typically covered by insurance — but it's also one of the highest-value things you can spend healthcare dollars on if you have the right pathology. We tell you the full cost before your first session.

Average total spend
$600–$1,000 for a full course

vs. years of failed cortisone, NSAIDs, and ineffective generic PT. Most patients describe it as the best money they've spent on their body.

08 / FAQ

The shockwave
questions we get most.

Don't see your question? Call us at (786) 828-6161 — we answer.

Does shockwave therapy hurt? +
Most patients describe it as "intense tapping" or "strong thudding" — uncomfortable but never sharp. The intensity is adjustable, and we increase it gradually as you tolerate it. The treatment is over in about 15 minutes.
How many sessions will I need? +
Most chronic tendon cases respond to 3–5 sessions, one per week. Stubborn cases (10+ years of pain, calcific tendinitis) sometimes need 6. We don't sell packages you don't need — if you respond in 3, you're done in 3.
When will I feel relief? +
Many patients notice a real shift by session 3. A few feel different the very first session. Some don't feel anything until week 4 — and then it clicks. Full tissue healing continues for 3 months after your last session.
Does insurance cover it? +
Focused shockwave is usually not covered by US insurance. That's actually part of why it's underused — and why most clinics that bill insurance can't offer it. We're upfront about cost so you can decide if it fits your case and budget.
Do I need a referral from another doctor? +
No. Florida is a direct-access state and shockwave is a cash-pay service — book your Initial Evaluation and we'll go from there. If you've already seen an orthopedist or sports-med doc, bring any imaging or notes; they help, but they're not required.
Are there side effects? +
Mild soreness for 24–48 hours after treatment is normal and expected — it's the healing response. Occasional bruising or redness can occur. Serious side effects are very rare when shockwave is delivered by a properly-trained licensed therapist. Avoid NSAIDs and ice on treatment days — they blunt the healing process we just triggered.
Who shouldn't get shockwave? +
Patients with active cancer at the treatment site, blood-clotting disorders or anticoagulant therapy, pregnancy (over the abdomen / pelvis), active infection, or open growth plates in pediatric patients. The Initial Evaluation screens for these before we ever treat.
How is this different from other shockwave I've seen? +
Two things: we use focused shockwave (deeper, more precise than the radial shockwave most clinics use), and we pair every session with hands-on therapy and a real strength plan. Shockwave alone restarts the healing — strength completes it. Most clinics skip step two, which is why the pain comes back.
